Main Properties of Aluminum Oxide

Alumina refractory is an extremely strong material with high hardness, high wear resistance and high compressive strength. It is highly resistant to thermal shock and chemical attack even at elevated temperatures. These properties are why alumina stands out as the material of choice for low-cost production and fabrication.

Application of alumina

High alumina refractories are a mainstay in petrochemical applications, especially syngas reactors with harsh thermochemical and thermomechanical process conditions. Hydrogen is present in syngas applications. For optimum performance and to avoid unwanted reduction reactions, high purity alumina is required. Another key application of Al2O3 ceramics is in the field of autothermal reforming (ATR), a key process for the production of synthesis gas through the partial oxidation and catalytic reforming of hydrocarbons. The outstanding chemical inertness of pure alumina makes it ideal for applications in both oxidizing and reducing atmospheres, making it a key competitive material at multiple contact points in industrial petrochemistry.
